Playa Flamenca's streets: beach side, the centre and inland

Playa Flamenca stretches from the coast up to the hills near the AP-7, with the N-332 running through the middle.

  • Beach side: apartment blocks and bungalow complexes between the N-332 and the sea, a few minutes' walk from Playa Flamenca beach. The most popular area for holiday use and for buyers who want the beach on foot.
  • The commercial centre: the streets around the N-332 and the market area, with small shopping centres, supermarkets, banks, bars and restaurants. Very convenient for year-round living without a car.
  • Inland urbanisations: quieter bungalow and townhouse complexes with communal pools on the higher ground, generally the best value in Playa Flamenca and a short drive from Villamartín.

To the south Playa Flamenca merges into La Zenia, and to the north into Punta Prima. For the wider picture, see our Orihuela Costa guide.

Playa Flamenca beach and the coastal path

Playa Flamenca beach is a sandy bay with calm water, lifeguards and beach bars in summer, and good access for families. It has regularly held a Blue Flag. Either side, low cliffs and small coves line the coast, and the coastal path runs south past La Zenia beach and Cala Cerrada all the way to Cabo Roig. Walking it early in the morning is part of daily life for many residents, and in spring and autumn you often have the coves almost to yourself.

Because the beach is compact, it gets busy in July and August. Owners who want a quieter swim in high season often walk ten minutes along the path to the neighbouring coves.

The Saturday market and everyday life in Playa Flamenca

The Playa Flamenca Saturday market is one of the largest street markets on the coast, with fruit and vegetables, clothes, household goods and local produce. It draws residents from all over Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja, so arrive early. The rest of the week, Playa Flamenca works like a small town: supermarkets, pharmacies, bakeries, hairdressers, estate agents, vets and a large choice of bars and restaurants, many open all year.

La Zenia Boulevard shopping centre is five minutes away by car, and there are public health centres and private clinics nearby. For many buyers, this mix of beach and everyday services is exactly why they choose Playa Flamenca over quieter areas.

Who Playa Flamenca suits

Playa Flamenca is ideal for retirees and long-stay owners who want to walk to the beach, the market and the supermarket; for first-time buyers who want a pool and the sea on a moderate budget; and for investors focused on long-term tenants. The international community is large, with many British, Irish, Scandinavian, Belgian, Dutch and Eastern European residents, and clubs and associations for most nationalities.

Golfers are ten minutes from Villamartín and Las Ramblas. If you want something more upmarket, look at Cabo Roig, a few minutes further south.

Airports, hospital and transport

Región de Murcia airport (RMU, Corvera) is approximately 35 to 40 minutes by car, and Alicante-Elche airport (ALC) approximately 40 to 50 minutes via the AP-7 or the N-332. The public Hospital Universitario de Torrevieja is approximately 15 minutes away, and the Hospital de la Vega Baja near Orihuela serves the inland part of the municipality. Buses along the N-332 link Playa Flamenca with Torrevieja and the rest of the coast, which, together with the walkable centre, makes it one of the easier parts of Orihuela Costa to live in without a car. Golf at Villamartín, Las Ramblas, Campoamor and Las Colinas is 5 to 15 minutes away.
