This hilltop Spanish town looks out over the Torrevieja salt lake and sits just inland from Orihuela Costa, so the beaches of La Zenia and Cabo Roig are only 10 to 15 minutes away. Around it lie some of the most sought-after golf courses on the Costa Blanca, including Las Colinas, Villamartín, Las Ramblas and Campoamor. San Miguel de Salinas has three distinct property markets, and it pays to know which one you are looking at.

• The town itself: a traditional Spanish town built on a rise, with a church square, shops, bars and restaurants. Apartments and townhouses here are aimed at year-round living, and newer developments on the edges often have views over the salt lake towards the sea.
• Blue Lagoon: a large urbanisation on the coastal side of the municipality, right next to Villamartín. It is made up mainly of bungalows, townhouses and detached villas, many around communal pools, with its own commercial area and easy access to Villamartín Plaza.
• Lomas de Don Juan and the surrounding countryside: a quieter area of detached villas on larger plots, with a more rural, spread-out feel.

Several modern new-build developments have also been completed around the town in recent years, typically villas and semi-detached homes with private pools and roof solariums, many designed to catch the views over the lake.
