Pilar de la Horadada is the southernmost town of the Costa Blanca, right on the border with the Region of Murcia. Unlike the purpose-built resorts to the north, it is a real Spanish working town with a busy centre, schools, a health centre and year-round life, plus its own stretch of coast at Torre de la Horadada and Mil Palmeras a few minutes away. Property for sale in Pilar de la Horadada covers everything from town-centre apartments and terraced houses to beachside homes and golf villas at Lo Romero, often at lower prices than comparable homes in Orihuela Costa. It also has the shortest drive to Región de Murcia airport of any Costa Blanca town.

Pilar de la Horadada was part of the municipality of Orihuela until 1986, when it became an independent town. It takes its name from the Virgen del Pilar, whose festivities in October are the highlight of the local calendar, and from the Torre de la Horadada, a 16th-century coastal watchtower built to warn of pirate raids, which still stands above the sea in the coastal village of the same name.

Agriculture shaped the area, and the town is still surrounded by irrigated farmland and citrus and vegetable fields. That gives Pilar a more authentically Spanish feel than much of the coast: local bars, family-run shops and a weekly market alongside a growing international community.
