This small, friendly municipality sits on the western shore of the Torrevieja salt lake, about 15 minutes from the beaches of Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa. You get a genuine Spanish village centre, a mix of townhouses, quad houses and detached villas with private pools, and prices noticeably below the coast. Many homes on the edge of town look straight across the pink lagoon towards the sea. Los Montesinos became an independent municipality in 1990, when it separated from Almoradí, and it still feels like a working Spanish village.
